Teaching Philosophy

I offer lessons for beginner to advanced students on both modern and baroque flute. My studio is a laboratory for flute, music, and life. I teach students of all ages, levels, and interests. I seek to meet students where they are and help them grow as musicians and people. Students are expected to practice every week and comes to lessons prepared with the material assigned. I try to model the structure of lessons how I would like students to proportion their individual practice time. The purpose of lessons, after all, is to give students the tools necessary to teach themselves! That being said, every student is different and every week presents different priorities so this model is not set in stone. Most students will begin with half-hour lessons and move up as they progress.

I believe that everyone deserves access to music education, and I seek to break down any barriers to entry for my students. I have an extensive music library which I share with my students, as well as several instruments for loan. If you are interested in lessons but worried about costs or equipment do not hesitate to reach out. I am excited to create a plan that fits your needs and means!
